Wasaga Beach Mosaic Mural Unveiling to Take Place January 30 at Wasaga Stars Arena

WASAGA BEACH – A new piece of public artwork inspired by the movement of water is coming to Wasaga Beach. The Wasaga Mosaic Mural is a large-scale public art installation created through extensive community participation and shaped by the town’s deep connection to its shoreline and waterways.

“This mural reflects how deeply connected our community is to the water. Water is the lifeblood of Wasaga Beach — it shapes our identity, our economy, and our way of life. This artwork captures that connection, and it’s especially meaningful because so many people can look at it and say, ‘I helped make that.’ It’s a piece shaped by many hands and one that will be enjoyed for years to come.”

- Mayor Brian Smith

The official unveiling will take place on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wasaga Stars Arena (544 River Road West). Community members, project participants, and visitors are invited to gather and celebrate the completion of this community-built piece of art.

Spanning 97 feet wide and 3 feet tall, the mural is composed of 1,176 hand-painted tiles created by residents of all ages. Inspired by the natural movement of Wasaga Beach’s shoreline, the flowing wave design reflects water as a defining feature of the community — a source of recreation, inspiration, and connection tied to the longest freshwater beach in the world.

From September 2024 to December 2025, more than 50 free workshops were held across the community, offering residents opportunities to contribute original monochromatic artwork in shades of blue and grey using acrylic paint pens and watercolour. Individual tiles, each offering a personal interpretation of Wasaga Beach, come together to form a unified and visually striking work of art.

The unveiling event will include remarks, light refreshments, an opportunity to view the mural up close, and a chance for participants to see their individual contributions installed as part of the larger work.
