Civic Awards & Recognition

Celebrating Our Finest Citizens

The Civic Awards Program celebrates residents who make Wasaga Beach a better place to live, recognizing outstanding contributions in four categories: Athletics, Finest Citizen of the Year, Senior of the Year, and Emergency Services. Each year, the program honours exceptional individuals whose dedication and spirit enrich the social, cultural, and civic life of our community.

Award Categories & Criteria

Awards are given when the Committee feels a nomination truly deserves recognition. Residents can be nominated in more than one category, as long as each nomination meets the specific criteria. However, the same contribution or service can only receive one award, even if it’s nominated in multiple categories.

Athlete of the Year

Awarded to the best male and female athletes who excel in competitive sports at a provincial level or higher. Recipients demonstrate exceptional leadership, athleticism, and sportsmanship while also contributing to their community through involvement and volunteerism.

Finest Citizen of the Year

Awarded to an individual who has made exceptional volunteer contributions across multiple areas within the community. Recognizing someone who demonstrates all-round community involvement and a commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Senior Citizen of the Year

Awarded to an individual aged 65 or older who has made outstanding contributions to the community through voluntary or professional activities. The award highlights efforts that enhance the quality of life for others through community service, advocacy, and leadership.

Citizen Emergency Service Award

Awarded to an individual or group who has shown exceptional courage, dedication, and leadership during an emergency situation. This award honours those who go above and beyond to protect and serve the community in times of need.

Garden Competition

Awards are presented across multiple categories to individuals and groups who demonstrate excellence in garden design, creativity, and maintenance. These awards celebrate gardens that enhance the community through beauty, sustainability, and thoughtful use of space.

Nominees must:

  • Be residents of Wasaga Beach.
