New digital archive, library pop-up museum and storytelling series invite residents to share the memories that have shaped the community

Wasaga Beach, ON –The Town of Wasaga Beach, in partnership with the Wasaga Beach Public Library, is launching The Memories Project, a new initiative inviting residents to share the stories, photographs, and experiences that have shaped the town’s history.
Through storytelling, historic artifacts, and digital submissions, the project will create a living record of Wasaga Beach—capturing the memories of residents past and present and preserving them for future generations.
The Memories Project will roll out through a series of initiatives that encourage residents to explore local history and contribute their own stories.
Launch of Wasaga Beach’s First Digital Archive
At the heart of the project is the launch of Wasaga Beach’s first digital community archive, an online platform where residents can explore photographs, videos, written stories, and memorabilia that capture the story of Wasaga Beach and life in the community.
The archive allows visitors to explore historic images, timelines, and personal stories shared by residents—creating a shared record of Wasaga Beach’s past and present.

Library Pop-Up Museum: Bridging Generations & Sharing Stories
On Sunday, March 15, the Wasaga Beach Public Library will host a Pop-Up Museum: Bridging Generations & Sharing Stories, a free community event that transforms the library into a walk-through historical experience.
Open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Pop-Up Museum will feature a curated gallery of photographs and artifacts, interactive displays, and hands-on activities designed to help visitors explore the history of Wasaga Beach.
The event will also include storytelling stations with local historians, as well as an open-mic storytelling session from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., where residents can share personal stories about life in Wasaga Beach.
The Pop-Up Museum marks the wrap-up of the Library’s Bridging Generations: Preserving Memories, Building Connections program, supported through a $24,000 Ontario Seniors Community Grant. Through this initiative, older adults and veterans have taken part in workshops to digitize family photos, slides, audio recordings, and video while sharing their stories with others in the community.
Fireside Chats: Memories of Summer
Later this fall, The Memories Project will continue with Fireside Chats: Memories of Summer, a series of informal storytelling gatherings that celebrate Wasaga Beach’s past, present, and future.
Local storytellers, historians, and long-time residents will share memories about the town’s early days, beach culture, iconic landmarks, and the people who helped shape the community.
Connecting Wasaga Beach’s Past to Its Future
Wasaga Beach is entering a pivotal and transformational moment as the Town moves forward with Destination Wasaga, a long-term effort to reimagine the waterfront and strengthen the community as a globally recognized, four-season destination.
At the same time, The Memories Project ensures that the stories, heritage, and lived experiences that shaped Wasaga Beach remain an essential part of that journey forward. By sharing photographs, memories, and personal stories from residents, the project will help preserve and celebrate the town’s unique identity as it evolves.
