Expected Duration
The Street Sweeping Program may take 5 to 8 weeks to complete all of the streets in Town.
Priority Routes
Once the sweeping operations have been initiated, crews generally work in the following order:
Main Roads > Roads with Paved Shoulders > Residential Side Streets > Parking Lots
Sweeping Crews
A typical street sweeping crew includes rubber-tired front-end loaders working alongside trackless sweepers, mechanical street sweepers, and dump trucks to efficiently clear debris from roadways.
A street flushing unit crew is often the first to enter neighbourhoods with curb and gutter systems. Using clean, fresh water, the flusher washes accumulated sand from the roadway into the curb and gutter. Mechanical street sweepers then follow, collecting and removing the sand to leave streets clean and clear.
Please Give These Crews Space to Do Their Work
Motorists are asked to slow down when travelling near street sweeping equipment and operators. Please allow ample space when passing to help ensure the safety of both crews and the public.
Please Do Not Pile Sand From The Roadway or Driveway on the Road
Street sweepers are not able to collect large piles of sand. Sand should remain spread out along the edge of the roadway for effective removal. Piled sand can create hazards for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. If you are sweeping sand from your boulevard or driveway, please ensure it is loosely spread along the roadway edge prior to the week of April 13.
The Street Sweeping Program is weather-dependent, as spring conditions may affect the performance and scheduling of cleaning equipment.
Please Do Not Park on the Street When You See or Hear the Street Sweeping Crew in Your Neighbourhood
Parked vehicles can interfere with operations and may result in areas appearing to be missed. Residents are asked to avoid on-street parking until the cleanup crew has completed work in their neighbourhood. Crews may not be able to return to missed areas until later in the season.
The Early Morning Sweeper Crew in Your Neighbourhood
Early morning operations are a temporary inconvenience and typically occur only once or twice during the Street Sweeping and Sand Clean-up Program. This timing helps improve safety for residents and operators by reducing interactions with pedestrians—particularly school-aged children—and minimizing conflicts with parked vehicles.
Please Be Patient
Thank you for your cooperation and patience. Sweeping crews are working to complete cleanup as efficiently as possible and will service your street as soon as they can.
