Refined Design Unveiled for Proposed Marriott Hotel on Wasaga Beach Waterfront
WASAGA BEACH – The refined design for a proposed Marriott hotel on Beach Drive has been unveiled, marking an important step in the Town’s planning review process and the continued evolution of Ontario's summer playground.
The proposal represents one of the most significant private-sector investments in Wasaga Beach’s history.
The premium Marriott-branded hotel is the first phase of a broader multi-phase development led by Sunray Group, and will include:
- A full-service Marriott hotel with premium accommodations
- A year-round restaurant and indoor-outdoor gathering spaces
- Event, meeting, and wedding facilities
- Wellness amenities, including fitness and pool facilities
- A full-service spa offering relaxation and wellness experiences
- Ground-floor commercial uses, including shops, cafés, and restaurants
As part of the project, Sunray Group would also deliver a new public Festival Square adjacent to the hotel — a flexible outdoor gathering space designed to host events, performances, and community programming, bringing energy and year-round activity to the heart of the waterfront.
Ray Gupta, Chairman & CEO of Sunray Group of Hotels, said the project reflects both a personal connection to Wasaga Beach and a long-term commitment to its future.
“This is about creating something truly special on one of Canada’s most iconic shorelines,” said Gupta. “We’re proud to invest in a project that enhances the beachfront, supports the local economy, and helps position Wasaga Beach as a must-visit Canadian destination for years to come.”
The approximately 160-room hotel is designed to reflect its extraordinary setting, blending contemporary architecture with subtle retro influences inspired by Wasaga Beach’s rich tourism legacy.
Warm wood elements and expansive glass create a light-filled, open atmosphere that connects guests to the surrounding landscape, while a signature rooftop patio and event venue will offer panoramic views of the beachfront and some of the most spectacular sunsets on Georgian Bay.
The project could create more than 100 local jobs and is intended to support increased tourism, including longer stays and higher-value visitation—benefiting businesses across the community.
The proposal is currently under review through the Town’s planning approvals process. Council will consider input from the public, along with a staff report and recommendations, before making any decisions.
If approved, construction is anticipated to begin this summer.
