Costco Chooses Wasaga Beach for $50M Investment; Project Expected to Create About 370 Jobs

WASAGA BEACH – One of the world’s largest retailers is officially coming to Wasaga Beach.

Costco Wholesale has been cleared to begin construction after the Town issued a building permit for its new location at 345 Lyons Court—the final approval needed to move the $50 million project forward.

The development will bring more than 370 jobs to the community and marks one of the most significant private-sector investments in Wasaga Beach’s history. It is expected to deliver a significant boost to local employment and economic activity.

"This is a big moment for Wasaga Beach and something we know residents have been waiting for,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “This Council has been focused on attracting major investment that creates jobs, strengthens our economy, and builds a more sustainable tax base. Securing a globally recognized retailer like Costco speaks volumes about the confidence investors have in our community and where we are headed."

This investment supports the Town’s broader economic development strategy to attract major employers, support local businesses, and reduce reliance on residential property taxes. Attracting good-paying jobs and investment that will strengthen the Town’s commercial tax base remains one of Council’s top priorities to make life better and more affordable for residents.

The project adds to a wave of major investment reshaping Wasaga Beach. Over the current term of council, more than $355 million in public and private investment has been secured—including over $155 million in provincial infrastructure funding, the highest level in the Town’s history.

Recent projects—including Sunray Group’s $60 million Marriott hotel and Stonebridge Building Group’s $90 million mixed-use development underscore growing investor confidence in Wasaga Beach as a destination for business, tourism and long-term growth.

The new Costco will include a 162,000 sq. ft. warehouse, tire centre, gas bar and seasonal garden centre, expanding shopping and service options for residents and visitors.

Construction is set to begin this spring, with doors expected to open as early as fall 2026.
