They’ve helped energize the Wasaga Stars Arena and created opportunities for residents of all ages to come together and support local junior hockey. Hosting the GMHL All-Star Event is a proud moment for Wasaga Beach and supports our ongoing efforts to grow sports tourism and create shared experiences that bring people together.” - Mayor Brian Smith
WASAGA BEACH – The Town of Wasaga Beach is proud to welcome the 2026 Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL) All-Star Event on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Wasaga Stars Arena (544 River Road West).
The league’s premier showcase will be hosted by the Wasaga River Dragons and coincides with the GMHL’s 20th anniversary. The event will feature the league’s top talent throughout the evening, with the Prospects Game and GMHL Skills Competition leading into the All-Star Game, with puck drop at 8:00 p.m.
The hometown River Dragons will be well represented throughout the event, with six players selected to compete in the GMHL All-Star Game and another six named to the Prospects (U18) Game. With a total of 12 players participating, the River Dragons lead the league with the most selections from any single team.
Since arriving in Wasaga Beach in 2024, the River Dragons have built a strong and loyal following, averaging over 500 spectators per home game at the Wasaga Stars Arena. Beyond the rink, players and team staff have made a meaningful impact in the community by volunteering at local events such as the Mayor’s Charity RAM Rodeo and Santa Claus Parade, while also supporting local charities, schools and service clubs.
Team owner Brandon Billie said hosting the All-Star Event highlights the strong partnership between the team, the Town, and the community. “We are honoured to host the 2026 GMHL All-Star Event in Wasaga Beach,” said Billie. “From day one, this community has supported our players and organization. This event allows us to give back, celebrate the league’s 20th anniversary, and showcase the incredible atmosphere and community pride that make Wasaga Beach such a special place for junior hockey.”
