High quality, mixed-used development features a diverse range of residential and commercial spaces that will house new shops and cafes, complement a premium Marriot Hotel being built by Sunray Group, and support year-round economic activity at Beach Area 1 and Beach Area 2
WASAGA BEACH – Today shovels went into the ground and construction started on phase one of the new commercial and residential village near Beach Area 1 in Wasaga Beach.
The high quality, mixed-used development features a diverse range of residential and commercial spaces that will house new shops and cafes. It will complement a premium Marriot Hotel, shops, restaurants and other amenities being built by Sunray Group beginning in early 2026, and support year-round economic activity at Beach Area 1 and Beach Area 2.
“Today, we are putting shovels in the ground on a high quality, mixed-used village right here along 1st Street near Beach Drive. Stonebridge will build a diverse range of residential and commercial spaces that will house new shops and cafes, which will support year-round economic activity near Beach Area 1 and Beach Area 2. This will complement the premium Marriot Hotel, shops, restaurants and other amenities being built by Sunray Group,” said Mayor Brian Smith. “This is all part of the Town’s plans to reimagine our main beachfront and commercial area – to build Destination Wasaga – and reinvent our community as a thriving, four-season destination.”
In November 2024, Stonebridge Building Group was awarded a contract by the Town to design and develop a 5.18 acre portion of property near Beach Area 1 between 1st Street and 3rd Street.
“Stonebridge understands the significance of this project for Wasaga Beach, and we’re invested in the community’s success,” said Mark Crowe, President of Stonebridge Building Group. “Our team is proud to help build a vibrant, year-round village near the beachfront that will support local businesses and help reinvent Wasaga Beach as a thriving, four-season destination.”
Highlights of the village near Beach Area 1, include:
- Open spaces, a public park, public art and a focus on live-work town homes with ground floor commercial space.
- In total the project will include over 150 residential units and 31 commercial units.
- The five-phase project is expected to be completed within the next three years.
- Phase 1 construction includes 26 residential units and five commercial units – and is expected to be completed this summer.
Stonebridge Building Group will pay for demolition costs related to this project. It is also working with the Town on redesigning 1st Street.
About the Town of Wasaga Beach’s Downtown Redevelopment Project
The downtown redevelopment project focuses on the beachfront commercial area along Beach Drive, between Spruce Street and 3rd Street. It includes the construction of a residential and commercial village, a premium Marriott Hotel, shops, restaurants, attractions and other amenities near the beachfront. The economic spinoffs will benefit the entire Town of Wasaga Beach. It is being guided by the Town’s existing, approved Downtown Development Master Plan, which outlines the following metrics that will be used to measure its positive impact on the Town:
- direct jobs created
- new visitors annually
- % increase in overnight stays
- increase in spending
- increase in non-residential municipal taxes collected by the municipality
