Destination Wasaga

The Destination Wasaga Master Plan is about more than redevelopment — it’s about community. This initiative puts the people of Wasaga Beach at the centre, ensuring that every voice, perspective, and idea helps shape a waterfront, downtown, and public spaces that reflect the town’s values. Together, our residents, businesses, and partners will create a welcoming, vibrant, and sustainable Wasaga Beach for everyone to enjoy.

Project Overview

Destination Wasaga is the Town’s long-term plan to reimagine the waterfront and downtown as a vibrant, four-season, family-friendly destination that reflects local values and strengthens tourism. Supported by the Province of Ontario’s $38-million investment - which includes the redevelopment of historic Nancy Island - the project builds on major improvements already underway along Beach Drive and invites the community to “Imagine” what the future of the beachfront can become. Guided by placemaking principles such as the Power of Ten—ensuring many things to see, do and experience within every space—the Master Plan provides a unifying vision that brings public and private investment together to strengthen Wasaga Beach’s identity as a leading recreation and nature-based destination.

The Destination Wasaga Master Plan is being designed to align closely with significant private-sector investments already reshaping the downtown core. Sunray Group’s xxx room hotel and conference centre will anchor a renewed hospitality district, offering new accommodations, employment opportunities and year-round activity. The Breakers mixed-use buildings will introduce new residential and commercial spaces that support walkability, street life and a stronger local economy. Together, these developments will help expand the commercial tax base, reinforce the vibrancy of the waterfront, and ensure that enhanced public spaces and amenities are complemented by high-quality private investment.

Input from residents, businesses, partners and visitors continues to shape the direction of Destination Wasaga, helping define what the community wants to protect, enhance and celebrate. This shared-vision approach ensures that every investment—whether public or private—contributes to a cohesive, welcoming waterfront that serves both today’s needs and tomorrow’s opportunities. Through Destination Wasaga, the Town is setting the stage for a dynamic future: one where revitalized public spaces, diverse commercial offerings and thoughtful environmental stewardship come together to create a world-class destination worthy of the longest freshwater beach in the world.
