Beach Drive
By raising Beach Drive and investing in modern infrastructure, the Town is building a climate-resilient corridor that addresses the unpredictable flooding impacting local businesses, tourism, and community access. This transformational project lays the groundwork for major future investment and redevelopment at Beach Area 1, creating a more sustainable, vibrant, and economically thriving beachfront for generations to come.
Project Overview
The Town of Wasaga Beach is advancing one of the most significant community-building projects in its history through the full reconstruction of Beach Drive at Beach Area 1. This project responds directly to decades of shoreline flooding that have disrupted tourism, damaged infrastructure, and limited the potential of one of Ontario’s most celebrated destinations. By raising Beach Drive five feet, and completely rebuilding the underlying water, stormwater, and sanitary systems, the Town is creating a climate-resilient shoreline corridor designed to withstand future lake-level changes, extreme weather events, and the pressures of a growing community.
As work progresses, the corridor is being reimagined not simply as a road, but as the foundation for a modern and vibrant beachfront district. Future streetscapes along Beach Drive, Main Street, and First Street include generous and accessible pedestrian spaces, new landscaping and tree canopies supported by soil-cell systems, high-quality paving, street furniture, and an environment that encourages people to gather, stroll, dine, shop, and enjoy the waterfront year-round. The project also includes new retaining walls, improved connections to the beach, upgraded storm outlets, and the construction of a new sanitary pump station, all of which will support the next generation of public space and development planned for the area.
The Beach Drive reconstruction unlocks the full redevelopment potential of Beach Area 1—setting the stage for millions of dollars in investment and a renewed era of economic activity along the waterfront. This transformational work marks the first step toward creating a more resilient, accessible, and inviting beachfront that will serve residents, businesses, and visitors for generations. Where erosion and aging servicing once limited the Town’s potential, a durable and beautifully designed waterfront district is now emerging - one that reflects Wasaga Beach’s identity, strengthens its economy, and creates a destination where people come to connect, explore, and build lasting memories.
