Broadcast Sector Relief |
The Government of Canada will provide additional relief to eligible television and radio stations by waiving Part II broadcasting license fees in 2020-21, which are collected annually by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Waiving these fees will provide as much as $50 million in relief for these companies, helping them maintain their broadcasting productions for Canadians. Canada Arts Presentation Fund |
The Canada Arts Presentation Fund (CAPF) provides financial assistance to organizations that professionally present arts festivals or performing arts series (arts presenters) and organizations that offer support to arts presenters. Through the CAPF, Canadians have access to a variety of professional artistic experiences in their communities. Each year, the CAPF supports approximately 600 professional arts festivals and performing arts series, as well as other activities related to art presentation, in more than 250 cities or communities across Canada. The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund (CCSF) supports the improvement of physical conditions for arts, heritage, culture and creative innovation. Canada Music Fund |
As announced in the 2019 Federal Budget, the CMF has received an additional $20 million over two years, starting in 2019-2020, so that it enhances its support for the production, promotion and distribution of Canadian music. This investment supports more Canadian musicians and music entrepreneurs, and help with the rising costs of marketing and promotion necessary in the music industry today. CBC Creative Relief Fund |
The CBC has launched The CBC Creative Relief Fund to provide immediate, urgent support to Canadian creators. The unprecedented new Fund will provide $2 million in development and production funding for a diverse range of innovative, original Canadian storytelling, including scripted comedies and dramas, unscripted entertainment, kids and young adult programming, podcasts, play adaptations and short documentaries. COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations |
The COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations will be a $500 million fund to help address the financial needs of affected organizations within these sectors so they can continue to support artists and athletes. This measure is consistent with the Government of Canada's other existing COVID-19 support measures for wages and fixed costs for organizations. Beginning May 8th, partner organizations will be contacted so that funds can begin to flow to cultural and sport organizations. Canadian Heritage is working closely with its partners – in particular, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Canada Media Fund, FACTOR, Musicaction, and Telefilm Canada – to distribute the funds as quickly as possible using existing channels. As part of Phase 2 of the disbursement of funds, to address gaps that have been identified by industry, additional funding will be directed to other organizations - some of which do not normally receive funding rom Canadian Heritage, the Canada Council for the Arts, Telefilm Canada or the Canada Media Fund.
