The Town of Wasaga Beach is advising the community that some members of the corporation have tested positive for COVID-19.
Most of these individuals are within the Wasaga Beach Fire Department, however, other members within the town corporation have also tested positive for the virus.
A number of the individuals who tested positive are fully vaccinated and showing only mild symptoms, such as a head cold. Almost 90 percent of the town’s workforce is vaccinated.
It is not clear how the individuals contracted the virus – that is under investigation.
The town has notified the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Public health considers the situation an outbreak if two or more individuals have contracted the virus.
The town is following its safety plan.
In addition to regular cleaning of high touch areas, additional enhanced cleaning of town facilities is taking place this weekend.
As a precaution, the town is closing to the public its two fire halls and town hall until at least Thursday.
The town is continuing to review the situation. The municipality is in contact with public health. The town will provide additional updates as warranted.
