Wasaga Beach Tourism Destination Management Plan

The town's first Tourism Destination Management Plan was undertaken in 2018.  The purpose of the plan is to guide future tourism development in a cohesive and strategic manner, and align efforts with other local, county, and provincial initiatives over the next three to five years. Ultimately, the goal is to increase the number of visitors to Wasaga Beach, have them stay longer and contribute more to the local economy.

In the management plan document you'll also find a situational analysis of the key assets, constraints and opportunities facing Wasaga Beach's tourism industry; the goals that were set at the start of the process; recommendations from product development to ideas for implementation of the plan.

The Tourism Destination Management Plan was made possible by financial support from Regional Tourism Organization 7 and Tourism Simcoe County.

On March 26, 2019, Council approved seven of the eighteen recommendation for implementation in 2019.

  1. Create an industry-led Advisory Committee on Tourism, appointed by Council to serve in an advisory capacity and ensure that activities are aligned with the TDMP.
  2. Transition visitor information services to Planning and Development Initiatives.
  3. Take proactive steps to increase day-trip visitor spending and promote the entire business community.
  4. Tourism operators must come together to understand, embrace and be engaged participants in collectively supporting the implementation of the TDMP.
  5. Deliver tourism industry training and grow participation in programs offered online or at the regional and county level.
  6. Create a transitional marketing plan to support the proposed tourism brand and enhanced activities, events and experiences.
  7. Promote the Town of Wasaga Beach Façade Improvement Program to assist with private-sector tourism enhancements.
